NY Freedom Trail

Saturday we started the New York Freedom Trail by doing the Bronx down to Central Park.  We started at the Dyckman house where there is a hessian hut and the British troops headquartered.  We then went to Fort Washington which is the highest natural point in Manhattan it is now a park with a plaque to remember the history.  From Fort Washington we went to Morris Mansion where Washington stayed for about a month of the war making some important decisions there.  He had once courted Mrs. Morris but she had evacuated earlier in the war.  She later married and divorce Aaron Burr who also had a room in the house.  From there we went to Harlem Heights to where Columbia University is located and there is a plaque for the battle of Harlem.  From there we went to Central Park East to a pass that Washington used, McGown Pass.  It was a busy full day.  We hope to do the lower Manhatten trail on Tuesday.
